“Extra-Domiciliary Activities”

Everett Malcon the tenth also enjoyed many “Extra-Domiciliary Activities” (EDA) on the moon. For his 17th birthday, his mom and dad had splurged and bought him an EDA-approved Astrozuki moon-o-cross Electric 650 designed and built by Astrozuki, the leading Japanese manufacturer of Electric-powered moon-o-cross bikes.

Moon Unit Zappa

The early colonists were proud people generally, and of a tough character, to boot, very patient, exhibiting the ability to endure hardships of many kinds – having experienced many hardships in the building of the colony. The colonists of today, including the Malcons were tough proud and innovative too, having built several complexes recently, unique to Lunar life and found only in the Lunar Colony #7. One notable complex was Moon Unit Zappa - an entertainment complex that held no rival in the Colonies one thru six. As a young man, Everett, growing up in Lunar Colony #7, loved spending time at Moon Unit Zappa. This was the place to be in Lunar Colony #7. Suspended animation tanks were his favourite thing to pass time by. He could spend hours in there. Hook up the virtual world cap lie down and hit the suspend button on the remote in your left hand. Suddenly you’re floating, nothing encumbering save a few wires attached to the cap affixed to your head. Suspended, you can speed now through a virtual world, on a journey of your own design, literally floating free and with the help of the virtual world technology, you can float over and through worlds just by thinking about them. And it was affordable too – thirty world dollars for a four hour session.
The suspended animation chamber and Moon Unit Zappa were just two among many of the young Everett’s exploits on the moon.

Moon Colony #7

Fortunately, destiny intervened for the Malcons. During the last of their many conjugal visits, the Malcon’s conceived what was to soon become little Everet Malcon the tenth. With Izzy now just into her second trimester and Freddy with very little hope of finding a job ever again on earth, destiny intervened for this young family. There was a government program that was recruiting smart, “reformed” yet stigmatised “lesser crimes” ex-convicts (those professing both good skills and good degrees) to begin life anew on the recently opened lunar colony #7. Freddy and Izzy decided they had nothing to lose. They signed up to live on the moon and opened their new vision enhancement research centre in a Lunar market as yet untouched by franchising fanatics.
Yes, destiny had called them to this outpost. After what the Earth’s legal system had put them through, they felt like they belonged here on the moon. The Lunar colony was a rugged place where, over the past twenty years since it’s inception, when the opening-day tape was cut in the main dome of sector one, by United Earth Nations (UEN) Secretary Janetary X-Bush, (George Dubya Bush’s granddaughter), colonists understood what it took to make life work on the moon. Colony #7 was not considerably big – a population of 7777, but it was the biggest of the seven colonies now existing on the moon. Lunar Colony #1 had a population of 1,111 people, Colony #2 – a population of 2222, colony #3 had 3333 people, etc. Astrologists and Numerologists on Earth made attempted to “metaphysicalize” the symmetrical nature and patterns of the Lunar colony numbers but the fact remained that the repeated numbers for each colony were decided upon primarily for practical reasons by JPL and NASA in the early planning stages of the Lunar Colony and they “stuck”, simply. For one thing, the numbers were easy to remember. Two it gave NASA Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), engineers a convenient benchmark to work from when determining the amount of earth atmosphere that needed to be sustained at any given point in time in any of the colonies. This pattern was deliberately continued all the way up to Colony #7 and the numbers of people in the colony were strictly controlled people leaving were replaced by new colonists. If two or three new babies arrived in the colony, the population was informed immediately and two or three people were mandated (given the opportunity) to move to another colony where a spot in the population needed filling. If no one came forward voluntarily, the colony’s governing body decided who would leave. This type of move was generally well accepted even by the people chosen to move. First of all, babies need less air than adults so it was common practise to allow the exiting people several months to decide when and where to make their move. Secondly there was at least some choice of where to move. Whether they would move to one of the other colonies or back to earth or on to the far more hazardous arduous infant colony on Mars, they had several months to decide.

It was a requirement that took into account the cost of earth atmospheric generation on a per person basis. Especially in the stark budget years, the result of a major political transition on earth, wherein nations began to trade in their national leadership structures for a place in the corporate structure of leadership offered by the ever expanding, increasingly domineering, yet seemingly very necessary UEN.

Freddy and Izzy

Freddy had decided to do his time quietly only after fruitlessly fighting in court for well over three years to try and get the judges to see that he was in fact, completely innocent and that his patient, who had signed the required release of liability form, had come to him with only one good eye and had left with only one good eye. What did he lose? Though the judges generally sympathised with him they always came around to the point that Freddy regretted had happened and probably would carry that regret with him to the grave. Why had he not followed the World College of Physicians and Surgeons’ guidelines in using the updated release of liability forms and patient consent forms BEFORE performing the experimental procedure on the supposedly consenting patient who was by virtue of his signature on the old forms, already had released the doctor from any liability? The judge saw it as a contravention of the guidelines and also a criminal offense of mal practise and handed down a ten year sentence for Dr. Everett Fredric Malcon the ninth.

Fredric Malcon got out of prison and was thankful that his wife had decided to stick with him, for better or for worse. They had survived the ordeal of mal practise. They had somehow kept together for the past ten years through Fredric’s incarceration. As for the one-eyed technician, he finally took the advice of his drinking buddies and gone to see a psychiatrist regarding his tendencies, where upon he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. Enough to scare the shit out of any human being, it did. He had to clean his underwear back at home after he stopped shaking. The doctor prescribed the lasted pills, “these do a really good job at controlling the imbalance…” and with that the one-eyed technician became officially “a psycho…”, to his drinking buddies. This news got back to Fredric and his wife and they weren’t too thrilled at hearing it. But decided to take the higher road and just let the past stay in the past. On the other hand it added to their feeling that now, the earth in its entirety held no real interest for them anymore. The lazic procedure could be preformed by any entrepreneur with the means to purchase the highly successful and now mass-marketed worldwide, Cornia’s Razor, a controversial yet popular lazer-radial-carratotomy machine for the mere sum of W§2000.00. (worldollars). Entrepreneurs world wide were vying for a piece of the eye-pie. Those with the means were quickly cashing in on vision enhancement, and why not. Vision enhancement was rated the highest and quickest ROI business after Lunar Real Estate investment by Millenium II Fortune magazine in their January 2021 edition. Not surprisingly, it soon was an industry overtaken by franchisers. Of particular note, for their particularly aggressive expansion – an explosion of 30, 000 vision enhancement centres worldwide in three months –CEEMOR KLEERLY!

The earth market for vision enhancement, especially throughout the Middle East and Africa regions, was seriously undercut by the franchisers ability to mass market and offer the same product at a far lower price than any independent Vision Enhancement centre business would be able to offer the procedure for and it was therefore virtually impossible to profitably run a vision enhancement centre as an independent. Either pay the franchise fees or get out of the market altogether. Malcon’s mal practise conviction and subsequent jail time, coupled with the market flooding that had occurred, brought a sudden and definite end to that part of the malcons’ dream of having their own business that was personally rewarding, allowing them to help people, and allowing them to make a good profit at the same time. Under the circs, Izzy just couldn’t keep the business running on her own and on top of it all, her husband had been in jail for ten years, at the mercy of a slightly crazy one-eyed technician’s mal-practise lawyer.
However, they were not destitute by any means, Izzy had gotten §999, 999.00 world dollars for their condominium / Vision Enhancement Centre overlooking Caribou street in the Rocky Mountain resort town of Banff Alberta, Canada. It was now under the lean and keen ownership of a Chinese entrepreneur and franchiser - CEEMOR KLEERLY! Vision Enhancement Centres. We have Cornias Razor machine!

Bio-synthetic Human Optic Organ

He asked to return to work and in one week of working the technician’s supervisor logged a total of seventy-five level three, critical errors in the maintenance and repair procedures that one-eyed technician had carried out. The one-eyed technician was not informed of the documentation however and when he was queried about the errors he was very surprised to learn that these had been documented even though he had heard nothing from his supervisor in the past week regarding his “errors”. In fact the soop had praised his efforts in working so well even though he could only see with his right eye. Most of the errors documented were related to him lacking anymore depth of field and having obviously no vision left in his removed eye’s socket. The one eyed techy felt that someone higher up than the soop had decided he was a liability and so they would have to let him go. This was also the point at which the tech with lost vision and one good eye began to exhibit mild tendencies towards paranoia - tendencies which, according to his psychologist were “quite normal”. Lately however with the increase in the amount of stress in his life over loosing first an eye then being deliberately let go from his job for his loss of vision began to have “tendencies towards paranoia” with ever increasing more frequency. So much so that his drinking buddies began to worry about him, even going to the extent of suggesting to him that he might be better off seeing a professional about these tendencies.
Instead of going to a professional, the techy, in his situation of lost vision and without a job to keep up the bills paying, the one-eyed technician got himself a mal practise lawyer and sued Dr. Everet Fredric the ninth, the man that had given him a second chance – though it was experimental - at seeing things normally again, for mal practise. In the one week critical period it took for the synthetic optic organ to grow itself onto the remnants of optic muscle and what was left over from the one-eyed technician’s optic nerve the one-eyed technician was advised to move his normal eye and his patched new eye very little – he was advised to stay at home for a week and watch a lot of TV. Being a strongheaded technician and an eternal optimist, he decided, against Doctor’s orders, to travel to Fort Langley, BC to visit one of his drinking buddies, who had also been laid off from Lockheed recently. Fort Langley is at sea level. Exacerbating matters for him, the full week that he spent in Fort Langely, an immovable and unusual high pressure area settled in on Canada’s west coast. Barometric pressure jumped to 33.31 inches of mercury and remained there for the full week. The one-eyed technician told his drinking buddy that he had a pretty bad headache so his drinking buddy went to his mom’s bedroom, lifted up his mom’s mattress, took out a nice hand-rolled marijuana joint and offered it to the one-eyed technician. After smoking it he told his friend he felt much less pain and thought no further about the headache. In the mean time, the experimental bio-synthetic human optic organ failed to attach itself well to the remnants of the optic muscles and what was left of the one-eyed technician’s optic nerve. The experimental bio-synthetic human optic organ was rejected under the unusually high pressure of Earth’s atmosphere at sea level in Fort Langley BC that week.

Everett Malcon the Tenth

Everett Malcon the tenth has always struggled with having enough. His parents, both Intra-lazic eye surgeons, specializing in human optic organ generation and replacement procedures, told everyone that they had decided to come to Lunar colony #7 to finally answer some of the research questions they had postulated thirty years ago in Issue 3,228, 2004 Summer Edition, of Universal Vision Quarterly (UVQ), considered the leading journal in the then-fledgling field of Intra-lazic procedures, human optic organ generation, and bio-synthetic human eye replacement procedures. Their postulated question: is a near-zero gravity environment the best for generating bio-synthetic human optic organ and to what degree does human optic organ socket rejection rate drop if the replacement procedure is preformed in a zero-gravity environment?. They told everyone this is why they were going to the moon, but the real reason for their leaving earth for the moon, the one they generally kept quiet about except with close family members and trusted friends, was that the Everett Fredric Malcon the ninth (Freddy), his wife Izvinichi (Izzy), Pazhoulistah - her maiden name, and their yet to be born son, came to the moon in search of a better life after Fredric had spent ten years in prison convicted of mal practise. One of his patients, a spacecraft systems technician, whose left eye had been seared (and rendered useless, only to be later removed completely from its socket, surgically), by a superheated stream of hydraulic oil when he opened the line joint of the spacecrafts’ primary flight controls hydraulic system line to replace a timed-out pressure seal, prematurely, with the system still under residual pressure by virtue of it’s self contained accumulator that the technician had assumed was discharged by another technician on the midnight shift the day before. He assumed wrongly.
Thus the technician had one good eye when he came to Freddy and when the technician’s bad-eye socket rejected the experimental bio-synthetic optic organ Freddy had generated and implanted in the Technicians socket in a complex new procedure pioneered by Freddy, he still had one good eye. What had the patient lost? Absolutely nothing. In fact soon after the rejection, the technician had thanked Freddy over and over again for finding a way to let him see normally again even if it was for only six months. But the technician soon after that lost his job at Lockheed Astro-skunk workshaus. His supervisor said it was because of downsizing since they lost the contract to rival astronautics workhaus, the anti-matter propulsion laboratory – a branch of the ISA funded primarily by the UEN, to develop and build the control systems for the new Von Braun anti-matter engines designed for the X-47 unmanned interplanetary explorer launch vehicle. In reality it was because of an unwritten company policy to dispose of employees that took advantage of recent legal changes handed down from the world wide workers compensation board (WWWCB)– wherein full coverage of salary and benefits was to be awarded for the time of recovery and for up three years beyond the time it took for physical healing to occur. And, naturally, the one-eyed technician had taken advantage, for a while, that is, until he got bored and lonely, sitting in his bachelor pad all day trying to perceive a depth of field with only one eye. Since his officially work-related accident, he had bled the company’s resources significantly without contributing in any way to their profit making ability.

Plot Summary D

Olympus Mons on Mars is an extinct volcano and the largest known volcano in the solar system. It rises about 16.5 miles above the surface of the planet -- that's 3 times higher than commercial airliners fly. It is 372 miles from edge to edge at the base -- that's larger than the state of Washington. The crater in the centre is 40 miles wide from rim to rim.
The DeBeers Cartel controls about 70% of the world diamond trade. Debeers Lunar is a big part of Lunar Colony #7 as well. They have a big stake in the Mars colony and Malcon finds out very quickly just how big their stake in Mars and Olympus Mons is when he begins his journey to Mars from the moon. Diamonds are precious of course, and big diamonds are exceedingly rare. On earth and so too on Mars, big diamonds usually cost the owner in big ways. For example the Blue Hope Diamond found in South Africa was believed to carry a curse, two of the owners had their entire family die just one year apart.

Do Everett’s large-karat Mars diamonds carry a large curse of their own? Judging from the way they are discovered and the forced journey it takes to get them out, It appears that they indeed carry a curse with them. How many evil and deadly encounters await Everett Malcon on his forced quest to extract, then transport, the large precious stones back home to Lunar Colony #7? Read on to find out.

Plot Summary C

Even though a flight to Mars is now considered normal procedure for the average public, the one-eyed techy, in the midst of his episode, is too afraid to risk going to Mars by himself to find the diamonds. The doctor and the son have become the target of his schizophrenic need to have an answer for his lost vision. Instead of going himself, and knowing from meeting the son several times in the Banff Vision Enhancement Centre, that Malcon the tenth is an astro-geologist, he forces the doctor, his wife and the doctor’s son, Everet Malcon the tenth to journey to the fledgling Mars colony, (Colony #1), with him to mine for a precious find for him –one facet of an immensely clear Mars diamond from Olympus Mons. He needs the doctor then, to perform the implementation of the clear diamond facet in his left eye-socket. He needs the doctor’s wife along to assist in the procedure.

When finally on mars, in an unexplored, as yet unclaimed land sector of the red planet, in the base of the crater of Olympus Mons, Everett discovers a rich deposit of the super diamonds. The clearest, most brilliant diamonds ever found on any planet man has set foot on in the past millennium. The diamonds average size is 1380 karats. The biggest diamond ever found on earth to this date was 138 karats. Some of the bigger diamonds that Everet finds are around 2500 karats in weight. On Earth, there are no young diamonds, most are more than a billion years old. So too on Mars. The name diamond originates from the Greek word *adamas* which loosely translated means very strong or difficult to conquer. Diamonds are gems and can be found in two types of rock, kimberlite and lamproite. Both kimberlite and lamporite are created from volcanic eruptions from deep in the earth.

Plot Summary B

In the midst of his episode, he begins seeking “revenge” for the vision he lost in an industrial accident while working for Lockheed Astro-skunk hauswerks, back on earth. He wants his lost vision back. He sees the son of the doctor who gave him six months of seeing as the only hope for him seeing normally again. His reasoning in the midst of his episode: “…if the father gave me six months of normal vision, together the father and the son will give me 100-times more - six decades of vision at least”. The one-eyed technician patient has heard about the large diamonds that most likely, probably are on Mars. He believes, in the midst of his episode, that the immense clarity of but one facet of one of those large Mars diamonds implanted surgically in his empty left eye socket will give him back the clear vision he so desperately seeks.

Plot Summary A

Everett Malcon the tenth, is an Astro-geologist who forms the moderately successful moon-based, astrogem mining company – Beyond Infinity Rocks – after working ten years on the “Moon to Mars” project with the Interplanetary Space Agency (ISA) discovering as much as he could about the geology of Mars, as an astro-geologist. As fate would have it, Malcon must now risk everything he has ever held precious in life to travel to Mars from his present home, Lunar colony # 7. His father Everett Fredric Malcon the ninth (Freddy) and mother Izvinichi (Izzy) Pashaoulta (her maiden name), both supra-lazic eye specialists, and pioneering bio-synthetic human organ generator and replacement specialists, are being held hostage by a crazed former patient of theirs who initially came to the moon for a vacation and then having forgotten to pack his Zyprexa®, suffers a grand mal psychotic episode on the moon.
